Patch Tuesday July 2011 Report

The July 2011 edition of Microsoft's Patch Tuesday was relatively small. One of the updates is considered critical and affects Windows 7 and Windows Vista, although it would be a difficult one to exploit. The patch is for a Bluetooth vulnerability and so only affects systems that have Bluetooth capability. Any attacker would also have to be within Bluetooth range to be able to exploit it as well.

Patch TuesdayThe rest of the Microsoft patches are rated as "important". One being for Microsoft Visio which addresses a vulnerability first made public in August of last year. Other products had been affected by the same vulnerability and since patched, and there are likely to be more coming as well.

All of the other vulnerabilities involved Windows but the system would have to already have been compromised for an attacker to exploit them.
